When you started cycling did you expect to find love? and did you? Let’s rewind the clock to the 1930’s. Our story involves two sisters – Doris and Elsie Bickerstaffe. Keen road cyclists, both sisters joined their local club – (the now defunct?) Fylde Road Club.
Riding with the Club would lead both sisters to love. In December 1938 Elsie married George Fredrick Pleasance from the club, in Blackpool.
Not long after that in September 1939 Doris married Harry Couch, another FRC rider.
Here is an extract from a newspaper article written about Harry & Doris“A Blackpool Bridegroom and his bride, both active members of the Fylde Road Club, are spending a cycling honeymoon in the Lake District.”
Look out for more Fylde Road Club and other cycling memorabilia on the Shutt blog over the coming weeks. If you have any information regarding the Fylde Road club, let us know – firstname.lastname@example.org
This post is dedicated to the memory of George Fredrick Pleasance who died aged 90 on 13th Feb, 2003.
